“He’s protective of us all but he’s also very playful, he rolls over on to his back and his face flops over. When he smiles at you he’s got a tooth that pops out.”

A loveable, puppy-like “50 kilo lump” named Dozer has charmed Gympie readers on his way to being named the region’s unofficial quirkiest pets.
POLL: Which Gympie region pet is the quirkiest?
Two-and-a-half-year-old Mastiff cross Dozer was nominated by his owner Jeanette Todd and won with 18 per cent of the final vote, ahead of Dug (nominated by Leigh Clouston), Bear (nominated by Rtl Bear) and Fhoenix (Donagh Archer) all with 11 per cent.
Mrs Todd said she was surprised and chuffed with Dozer’s win, and that the competition had come at the perfect time.
“I just did it on a whim, but he is quite a quirky dog so I thought I’d take that one,” Mrs Todd said.
“I took the photo because he snuck up on to the couch with me and had his head down like ‘Maybe she won’t know I’m here’.
“I just took the photo that afternoon and I thought it worked out well (for the competition).”
Mrs Todd described her Dozer as a good mix of protective and playful, with plenty of quirk to go around.
“He’s protective of us all but he’s also very playful, he rolls over on to his back and his face flops over. When he smiles at you he’s got a tooth that pops out,” she said.
“The kids were playing netball out the front the other day and he fell off the veranda because he’s so dopey and doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
Congratulations to our winner and a big thank you to all the readers who nominated their awesome pets!
