Campers looking to get away from the busy world may soon have some new options on the table near Widgee.
Hopevale Ventures has lodged plans with Gympie regional Council to open a new campground on a rural 91ha block at the end of Upper Widgee Rd, not far from Wrattens National Park.
The pitch would create 15 campsites able to play host to 74 guests.
There would be four options available: one two-person campsite, seven sites able to cater to four people, six campsites with a six-person limit, and one campsite capable of hosting eight people.
A toilet and shower block will be built on the land.
Hopevale’s proposal is the latest in a growing number of applications for expanding or creating new campgrounds across Gympie.
In October the 40-year-old Imbil Camping Retreat was given approval to triple its capacity and add new features including a pool and a mini golf course.
At Wallu, near Tin Can Bay, Brisbane-based developer Deol wants to build a 21 cabin park and service station.
The council has yet to decide on this proposal.
A small four campsite proposal has been made at Goomboorian.
The council is planning on adding six new free RV camping sites across the region to help drive tourism.
This would bring the number of free RV parks to an even dozen across Gympie.
