Gympie woman takes legal technology lead

Gympie resident and Noosa solicitor Angela Treichel has become part of her profession’s technological history, after helping complete Queensland’s first all-electronic property transaction.

GYMPIE resident and Noosa solicitor Angela Treichel has become part of her profession's technological history, after helping complete Queensland's first all-electronic property transaction.

Now principal solicitor with the Noosa-based firm, By the Rules Conveyancing, the former St Patrick's College student recalled her years in Gympie, leading up to her latest groundbreaking achievement.

"I worked at Baldwins Lawyers doing an office traineeship and quickly got a taste for the law and began my law degree externally with Queensland University of Technology.

"I also worked at Jeffery Cuddihy & Joyce and finished my practical legal training with Bob Condon at Terra Firma Law before settling into my role as a Property Lawyer and then Principal Solicitor at By The Rules Conveyancing.

"Our head office is in Noosa, however we have conveyancers working all throughout Queensland."

Last month, the firm became the first in Queensland to settle a conveyancing matter using a new online platform called Pexa.

She described the first as a collaborative achievement particularly involving practice manager Carolynne Peebles and the team at Pexa, especially Sarah Papas.

"This is a very exciting time for conveyancing in Queensland," she said.

Paper-based conveyancing and payment by back cheque was now "archaic," she said.

And there was no longer any need for people to personally attend settlements.

"Conveyancing is finally catching up with the rest of the technological world.

"This makes transactions easy and stress free and reduces the time spent on paper pushing.

Her proud Dad, Kilkivan gold mine and quarry owner John Parsons was enthusiastic when he contacted The Gympie Times.

The new electronic system was streamlining a paper-based system, largely unchanged since the 1850s.
