Vicious trolls on social media have left a young Gympie woman feeling “like absolute sh-t” for speaking out on why she was getting the Covid vaccine.

Arielle Kay opened up on Thursday about why she was choosing to be vaccinated against the virus spreading across the world, killing millions and forcing Australia’s capital cities and states into harsh lockdowns.

She said the situation was “serious and it is something that’s very serious and people can die, but if you’re vaccinated there’s a better chance of survival”.

Social media trolls critical of the coverage of Covid and the vaccines wasted no time in piling on Miss Kay.

One troll attacked the 23-year-old’s appearance.

They said she “looked overweight”, was at risk of being unhealthy and of course “she would take the easy way out”.

Trolls were quick to target Miss Kay online.

They followed it up by saying they had “no empathy for anyone that plays any part in the media’s fear mongering”.

One Facebook member sarcastically told the original commenter he had figured out the “secret plan” of the “fear mongering media”.

“They want to stick dog c-m in your arm, that’s the secret plan bro you figured it out.”

The same account then continued to attack saying the original troll “maybe shouldn’t get the virus … I’m kind of interested in how much stupider Covid could make you, maybe you could get a world record for lowest IQ?”

Miss Kay said Friday the online attacks and verbal abuse left her feeling anxious and upset.

“It made me feel like an absolute piece of shit,” she said.

Miss Kay had done nothing more offensive than open about her decision to get vaccinated.

“You don’t know me, you’ve never me, there’s no need to say such nasty things.”

It was the first time she had received such criticism online and she was continually worried about what new offensive comments or insults were being made about her.

“It made me not want to look at it (throughout the afternoon) … but I’m only human and I did.”

She said the “keyboard warriors” who did it needed to wake up to the immense harm their cowardly remarks were inflicting.

“There’s no need for people to say such things,” she said.

“People never know what other people are going through … I wish people would realise words do hurt.

“Little things like that can tip people over the edge and lead them to kill themselves.”
