nbn upgrades are coming for Gympie North and Kybong, and with it some outages.

Gympie North and Kybong will benefit from increased bandwidth capacity as NBN Co upgrades their coverage of the nbn fixed wireless network.

The upgrades mean the region will have access to two new higher speed fixed wireless plans from next year.

In the coming weeks hardware replacements on towers in Gympie North and Kybong will mean planned outages, these may impact homes and businesses and their ability to use their nbn service while the work is underway, said a statement from nbn.

Upgrade works on a tower will usually require a total of three to four planned service outages over one to two weeks and impacted homes and business should be notified of any outages via their retail service provider, the statement informed.

Tower upgrade works are aimed to happen between 10pm and 10am during weekdays, and 6am and 6pm on weekends.

This is meant to minimise disruption, the statement said.

Homes and business may need to upgrade their nbn devices to get the full benefits of the upgrade.

“Fixed Wireless Home Fast will be available to 100% of users in the expanded fixed wireless coverage area and deliver a wholesale peak information rate of 100–130 Mbps download and 8–20 Mbps upload,” a spokesperson from nbn said.

In addition, the “Fixed Wireless Home Superfast will be available to approximately 85% of the expanded fixed wireless coverage area and deliver a wholesale peak information rate of 200–325 Mbps download and 8–20 Mbps upload,” they said.

These services will be available from next year.

“We are asking the community to prepare for these outages and have back-up connectivity if they need it,” head of nbn Local Qld Kylie Lindsay said.

“We encourage people to check the network status page on the nbn website and watch out for communication from their retail service provider about how the planned outages may impact them.”

The tower works will not impact nbn fixed line or nbn Sky Muster satellite services.
