SOCCER: Another local footballing milestone will be ticked off tonight when the Gympie United Gladiators face Brisbane visitors Westside Grovely FC in Round 3 of the national Football Federation Australia competition.
The Gladiators welcome their capital city opponents with optimism a week after their dramatic 2-2 draw with NYU in Round 2 of the Sunshine Coast Football competition, in which Player-coach Kyle Nix had to be taken from the field in an ambulance when he dislocated his elbow just 30 seconds after entering the game.

Gladiators club president Joel Albion said the competition, which involves around 781 amateur and professional teams, would bring unique opportunities to the club.
"The comp has been restructured a little bit, they've added a south-east Queensland pool which allows us to have these games earlier,” Albion said.
"Football Queensland have done a fantastic job to bring us a side from Brisbane and give them a chance to get out to the country.
"They come from the Capital Two competition, which is a big challenge for us. Who knows where we'll end up?
"We don't want to lose players, but it gives these Brisbane sides a chance to scout and give country players an opportunity if they impress.”
Albion urged the Gympie community to get behind the club on the momentous occasion.
"Get down to the club, even if you don't have a club shirt wear a blue shirt, wear the team colours and get behind the town, because ultimately we play for the town,” he said.
Gympie United v Westside Grovely kicks off at 4pm today at the One Mile Ovals.
