Spectacular new drone vision has captured the progress of the $1 billion Gympie Bypass project.

The new photos showed continued developments of the much talked-about project from Penny Rd and Flood Rd at East Deep Creek, as the Department of Transport and Main Roads hinted “major works” on the next phase of the Bypass were not far away.

Information sent to affected residents by TMR this week said works “will soon commence on the section construction contract for the Bruce Highway Upgrade”.

Contract one, the site where the new drone photos were captured, spanning Woondum to Sandy Creek Rd was being delivered by a Bielby-BMD joint venture.

Contract two, comprising an 18km, four-lane dual carriageway highway between Sandy Creek Rd and the new Curra interchange, has been slated to start “in the coming weeks”.

It’s understood preliminary works on contract two have gotten underway.

Drivers were urged to take care along the contract two stretch due to changed road conditions as of late May.

The transport department said last week about 40,000 cubic metres of rock would be removed when blasting works began in the contract one site this week.

Nearby residents of the project were last week told to expect traffic disruptions, noise, vibrations and dust as controlled blasting begins later this month.
