Gympie’s medical precinct is in line to grow further with a Sunshine Coast developer unveiling plans to turn an 80-year-old home into a day spa.
Aveesha Property Trust, directed by Jodie Fisher, has lodged its plans to turn a two-level house across the road from Gympie Hospital into a spa after buying the property for $655,000 in September 2024.
Under the plans lodged with Gympie Regional Council, the developer would transform the ground floor of the home at the corner of King and Alfred Streets into three spa rooms and a pedicure room, and top floor into a pool area with several magnesium pools, a reception area, three treatment rooms, and a staff area.
An online sales listing for the home said it was originally built in the 1940s.
The block itself is zoned as part of the city’s wider medical precinct.
The proposal is still under consideration by Gympie council.
It is the latest attempt to overhaul the land immediately adjacent to the hospital as part of a wider medical precinct development.
This has included the demolition of the old nurses quarters to make way for more car parking, the construction of new staff accommodation
by the Queensland government, and a private proposal to build a 108-bed retirement complex in King St.
The latter project is now in limbo with the developer, Pesdev, no longer listing the project on its website’s online portfolio.
Pesdev still owns the land, but it has been put on and off the market in the past few years.
