Covid mandates postpone Gympie District Show 2022

The Gympie Show is off for now as its chief organiser says “we won’t segregate our community” amid Covid vaccination mandates.

The Gympie District Show 2022 will not go ahead in May as planned but it has not been cancelled, show society president Deb Brown said on Friday.

Ms Brown said that because of the various Covid mandates under the current directions of the Queensland State Government, all competitors, patrons, exhibitors, volunteers and Show Society members would have to be double vaccinated.

“Logistically, we just can’t do it,” she said.

“We won’t do it.

“We won’t segregate our community”.

“We won’t exclude people from an event put on by the community for the community.”

The Bull ‘n Bronc event usually held at the Showgrounds in February also did not go ahead for those same reasons.

“This was an extremely difficult decision and it is just devastating that we cannot hold our Show when we were able to go ahead with it in 2021 with all the Covid restrictions and everything in place,” Ms Brown said.

A new date for the Show will be determined once the Covid mandates are lifted.
