At Gympie’s Australia Post Centre, it is not just mail that gets delivered – love is definitely in the air.

Ahead of Valentine’s Day this Friday, Australia Post has shared the sweet tale of how two of its delivery centre workers met and fell in love in one of the most unlikely of places.

Hayley and Matthew Joy have both worked at the Gympie Australia Post Delivery Centre for more than a decade.

Their love story began when Hayley’s mother, who also worked at Australia Post, decided to play Cupid.

After meeting delivery man Matthew, who had just moved to the region from Noosa, she introduced him to her daughter, and the two hit it off instantly.

In the following weeks, Matthew left a flower on Hayley’s car window every single day while doing his postie rounds.

From there, Hayley says “the rest was history”.

Their love blossomed.

Now with two children, Louis and Lochie, and they both still work at Australia Post.

“Australia Post is a big part of our lives,” Hayley said.

“It’s where we met one another, and we are grateful we were both there at the same time.

“It was meant to be.

“A lot of people say don’t date who you work with, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Hayley said it was their different shift times and roles that gave them both independence at work, with Matthew often working the night shift.

This meant their shifts often overlap in the morning when Hayley clocks in and they are able to catch up over a morning coffee to chat about the kids.
