Bruce Highway delays expected after truck trailer fire at Chatsworth

Delays are expected on the Bruce Highway north of Gympie as crews work to retrieve a bread truck trailer which caught fire near a school early Saturday.

Motorists on the Bruce Highway have been warned to prepare for delays after a bread truck trailer fire near Gympie in the early hours of Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to the blaze on the Bruce Highway at Chatsworth near Chatsworth State School about 2.46am.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said four crews attended the blaze, with the trailer “well alight” when they arrived on scene.

He said the fire was fully extinguished by 3.50am.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the truck was travelling south when the driver looked in the rearview mirror and noticed the trailer on fire before pulling over.

The trailer was understood to have been carrying plastic bread crates, but there was no bread on board.

The Bruce Highway is open however delays are expected while the heavy haulage team recovers the truck trailer from the scene.

Haulage crews were expected to be at the scene from about 7am.

Heavy fog was also impacting the area.
