A 31-year-old Gympie man accused of destroying parts of Gympie’s McDonalds in an attack that forced the store into lockdown has appeared in court for the first time.

A 31-year-old man accused of smashing up Gympie’s McDonalds restaurant with a crowbar during a night-time attack will remain in custody on remand for the time being.
Brenden Zane Doherty, from Gympie, did not apply for bail during his first appearance at Gympie Magistrates Court Friday morning following his arrest over the Wednesday night attack which prompted the store to go into lockdown.
Mr Doherty has been charged with three offences including entering a premises and committing an indictable offence, stealing, and possessing used pipes or utensils.
It has been alleged he entered the shop, located at the Bruce Hwy opposite Gympie Central Shopping centre, about 7.45pm while armed with a crowbar wrapped in a towel.

Police have alleged he used the weapon to destroy several service kiosks before fleeing the premises.
He was arrested on Thursday, April 27.
No-one was harmed during the incident.
Mr Doherty will return to Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday May 8, 2023.
