The Gympie Times Ladies Day will take place on Saturday, September 18, with the gates open from 11am and racing to kick off at 1pm.

Lisa grew up in Kilkivan, attended Gympie State High School and completed her journalism cadetship at The Gympie Times.

On September 18, she will attend an intimate Long Lunch at the Gympie Turf Club, with tickets to this event available for $80 per person.

Tickets include a complimentary glass of Chandon on arrival, a two-course lunch and exclusive access to elevated, trackside bar and dining – not to mention Lisa’s outstanding company.

But from attending Gympie High to completing her cadetship at The Gympie Times, she said her earlier years “meant so much” to her.

“It’s no wonder I ended up with lots of material for my book Daring to Fly,” she said.

“I’m so looking forward to sharing that with everyone and enjoying a day at the races.”

The Gympie Turf Club and The Gympie Times have both made it possible for Lisa to be a big part of the September Ladies race day.

“I can’t wait to get back up over the border from Victoria and spend some time in Gympie and Kilkivan.”

Daring to Fly is a story about conquering fear and finding joy on a deadline, and will be officially published on September 1, 2021.

Lisa Millar’s book Daring to Fly will be released on the first day of Spring, 2021.

As a child growing up in Kilkivan, Lisa dreamt of having a big life, and the years on the road for the ABC as a foreign correspondent gave her that in spades.

From the US to Europe, from great cities to remote villages, in three decades as a journalist she has experienced moments of joy among long periods of reporting on grief and tragedy.

It was only when she was finally grounded, that she had the time to reflect on what she had learned, not just about the world but how what she’d witnessed had changed her.

These life experiences have been explored in Lisa’s book, showing readers that we are all stronger and more resilient than we give ourselves credit for if we just dare to let ourselves fly.
