There is never a dull moment in the stunning Gympie region, and never an excuse to be bored. From the pristine Cooloola Coast to the stunning and fertile Mary Valley, out to the South Burnett and of course the rapidly growing city of Gympie, there’s a flow of family friendly events taking place.
We’ve put together some date claimers on big, exciting events coming to our region so you can mark it in the diary and make sure you don’t miss out.
THIS WEEKEND
Gympie Show and Jungle Love Music Festival and Paella in the Paddock
Of course, this weekend it’s all about the Gympie Show, with Saturday, May 15 - the last day of the show - also featuring the thrilling Gympie Show Rodeo which goes well into the night.
If you’ve already done the show and your tastes lean more towards musical experiences, the Jungle Love festival is on all weekend just down the road at the Borumba Deer Park near Imbil.

On Sunday head out to Cooloola Berries at 856 Tagigan Road, Wolvi, for Paella in the Paddock.

THIS MONTH
Goomeri Pumpkin Festival
May 27-30
A record 20,000 people attended this four-day event in the western reaches of the Gympie region when it was last held in 2019. It kicks off on Thursday, May 27.
Celebrating its 25th birthday, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is one of the quirkiest festivals in Queensland. Located west of Gympie, this three-day festival grows the small town of Goomeri; a population of 650, to well over 18,000!
Dedicated to all things pumpkin, this festival showcases a variety of stallholders, food vans, artists, celebrated chefs and the unmissable Great Australian Pumpkin Roll™ down Policeman’s Hill. You’ll be entertained from dawn to dusk.

Wheels on Mary
Head to Mary Street on Friday May 21, from 6.30-8pm and watch all 78 cars involved in the the Accent Benchtops Rally Queensland pack the street.
This will be your chance to meet the drivers and take photos alongside their cars, before the teams hit the track on Saturday, May 22. The festivities will also feature live music and delicious fare supplied by local food vendors.
Whether you are a car enthusiast, or looking for something to entertain the whole family, Wheels on Mary will be a can’t miss event.

Gympie Chamber of Commerce May Breakfast Meeting
The Roadmap is Started - what are the next steps forward?
The Gympie Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast meeting at the RSL on Wednesday, May 26, with special guest speaker, the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, Maree Adshead.
Ms Adshead will speak about how her office is responding to the changing needs and priorities of small business generally, and more particularly in the Gympie Region.
This event will help businesses gain a better understanding of how to access and utilise the services and support of the Commissioner.
“We will hear inspiring success stories of what can be achieved through ‘small business friendly’ collaborations and how it can help grow a strong Gympie identity,” a Chamber of Commerce spokesman said.
“We will also facilitate a Q and A with Maree and her team will also be on hand to field questions.”

Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic
Since the beginning of the Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic in 1986, this event has enjoyed a steady growth of registered competitors & spectators at the afternoon weigh-ins and nightly presentations. The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic & Expo focuses on “family” and ”community”.

Gympie Music Muster
From August 26-29, the serenity of the Amamoor State Forest will be temporarily interrupted by more than 100 artists, performing in five venues, over four days. The Gympie Music Muster is Australia’s original and best camping and music experience.
The Muster showcases a mix of country, roots, blues, folk and rock music as well as workshops, bush poets, kid’s club and more.

Amamoor State School 100th birthday celebrations
The Amamoor State School turns 100 years old this year and will be throwing a celebration on Saturday, October 16, at the school from 9am-3pm.

Mary River Festival
On Saturday, July 17 9am-4pm, behind the the Kandanga Hall don’t miss the Mary Valley‘s Friendliest Festival Mary River Festival. A not for profit event, it is run by the community for the community.
Mary Valley Art Festival
From July 2-4, the Imbil Public Hall will host the annual art festival. The Mary Valley Art Festival provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their talents, while vying for their share of over $8000 in prize money. Each year the artwork on display is testament to the creative abilities of individuals residing in our communities, while visitors attending the festival share the privilege of being able to view or buy the results of many hours of intense effort and passion. The awards presentation on opening night is a chance to meet the artists in a great atmosphere with music, wine and finger food.

Mitchell Creek Rock N Blues Fest
From Friday, September 19 to Sunday, September 19, the three day Rock N Blues Fest will feature more than 100 local and international artists over two large stages.
