Rain pouring into a Gold Coast home

A woman has been left heartbroken after her home was left inundated with water as interior ceilings fell away due the heavy rain lashing the Gold Coast.

Geri, who would prefer to keep her last name anonymous, was at her home in Mudgeeraba sheltering from the rain on Sunday when it started pouring into her house.

The second floor ceiling above Geri's dining room and kitchen fell apart leaving a pool of water.

“It’s so heartbreaking, you just feel so helpless,” Geri said.

The home has no structural or roof damage but rather the water got through the veranda and in between the third and second floor.

“The water came down at such a volume, it came under the iron and then got between the ceiling and has just collapsed the whole ceiling,” she said

“I was decanting the water with a two litre jug and putting it into the sink but I couldn’t get it out as quick as it was coming in and then I heard the crash underneath so the ceiling on the next level down fell through.”

Geri has had to cut power to her home as rain continues to pour into the house today, the ceiling in her lounge room on the second floor threatens to fall.

The heavy rainfall on Monday has caused further problems for Geri, entering through the same spot once again creating more damage.

“I’m well insured and I’m safe but it’s heartbreaking, I got new floors not long ago and had everything painted, that was the side of the house that I finished,” she said.

“I’ve got five children on the Gold Coast and I rang one of them for help but the creek was up and there was nothing I could do, I’m on the wrong side of the creek that gets flooded and I didn’t want to put any of them in danger.”

Geri is staying safe in the top floor of her home and has brought up a microwave, camp cooker and a kettle so she can stay at home.

With heavy rain predicted for the next few days Geri fears what will happen to her home.

“I don’t know how much damage there is going to be.”
