AMONG the Gladstone ratepayers to criticise this year's rates hike is Gladstone doctor Mark Entezami, who labelled some rate increases "exorbitant".
As an owner of a townhouse in a multi-dwelling complex, Dr Entezami said the minimum rate for his Category 7 was unfair.
"Residents in these dwellings use the council infrastructure, water or sewer as much as single-dwelling residents do," he said.
"They don't drink water or shower three times more or crap three times more than single dwelling residents, so why do we pay almost three times more rate per dollar land valuation of 2.544 cents against 0.891 cents, and cop a higher minimum of $1196 versus a $886 rate?
"The minimum rate for these dwellings is even higher than capping in many cases, which completely nullifies the capping effect altogether."
