Rugby League Gladstone Grand Final Day 2021: Back-to-back champions, big wins and huge performances

With one team crowned back-to-back premiers, the Rugby League Gladstone president said Saturday’s grand final day was one of the best he had ever seen. Full results here.

In sport there is nothing sweeter than beating your fiercest rivals when it matters most, and for five local rugby league clubs that dream was made reality on Saturday.

On a day when five age divisions played their grand finals on the same day for the first time ever, Rugby League Gladstone president Richard Duff said he was left speechless.

“We had plenty of club supporters and neutral spectators attend the grand final day,” he said.

“In my time with Rugby League Gladstone it was one of the biggest grand final days that we have ever had.”

Duff said he could not pick a side which impressed him the most as all grand final matches were fiercely competitive and played at a frantic pace.

“Both of the senior grand finals could have been won in the final minute by either side,” he said.

“There was only an eight point spread in the division one match and four in the reserve grade game.”

Duff said he could not have asked for a better way to send off RLG’s 2021 season.

“That is the best way we could have done it, honestly, the crowd was massive, the games were close, I couldn’t have asked for better,” he said.

Duff signed off on the RLG’s 2021 season by thanking his crew.

“We have a lot of hardworking people there who took care of everything from the perfect playing field to the busy canteen,” he said.

“I just want to thank my team for doing such a great day yesterday and this year.”

On the field, Valleys Diehards were crowned RLG Division One premiers for the second consecutive year.

The club was contacted for comment, however, grand final celebrations were ongoing.
