For anyone with a spare $1.4 million in their bank account, a 40-hectare pet retreat has recently gone on the market, with its current owner calling the business “a unique opportunity”.

The property, located at 669 Taragoola Road in Calliope, also features four bedrooms, three bathrooms and six carports.

Calliope businesswoman Sally Genninges has owned the Red Carpet Pet Retreat for five years, however, is selling in order to be closer to her family in Mackay.

“A couple of years ago Dad asked me if I would come home and I’m not the sort of person who can say no to that sort of thing,” she said.

“A pet retreat is not an easy thing to sell because it’s a unique opportunity and not everyone wants to run a kennel.”

Ms Genninges said the community’s support of her pet retreat could not be understated as she prepared for her big move.

“It’s grown really well, right from the beginning I didn’t advertise a huge amount because I was working on my own,” she said.

“I started off with a local ad in the classifieds and a Facebook page and have watched it spread by word of mouth.

“Now the occupancy rate is up around the 75-80 per cent mark and it's still growing.”

Ms Genninges said the buyer of the pet retreat acreage would be fully equipped with her blueprint for expansion, which included 22 additional kennels.

“There is a second stage which has been approved by the council which could be built by someone if they could manage it, she said.

“Expand it if you want to, you don’t have to, you can work it how I was working it and have a really good income and not too much of a workload.”

Ms Genninges said her ideal buyer would be a family, with kids at school, that was passionate about pet care and owning a business.

“The school bus comes along our road and the kids could catch that, on the school run they are first off in the afternoon and last off in the morning, it's only a five minute trip to school in Calliope,” she said.

“Alternatively, a veterinarian could buy the property and start a practice with the second state being modified to suit their needs.”

“Not only does it provide a first class commercial premises for the dog kennel and cattery, but the homestead, stables and sheds are in immaculate condition,” she said.

“Offering over 40 acres, the property is well set out to minimise noise disruption from the kennel while maintaining a tranquil, rural setting only 5 minutes from Calliope township.

“This is a great opportunity for someone to be their own boss but also move into a well-equipped, stylish home with all the modern conveniences you’d come to expect from a modern day acreage property.”
