A man bashed at a Central Queensland nightclub was hit with six punches before falling to the floor - but his attacker did not stop there - continuing to assault him while he was down.

A young man responsible for a violent Central Queensland nightclub bashing, has been sentenced.
William Shade Waia, 24, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard that on June 11 last year, Waia was at Gladstone’s Mieplace Niteclub when he attacked another man on the dancefloor.
Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said Waia punched the victim six times before the victim fell to the floor.
“And then he (Waia) continued to punch the victim while he laid on the floor,” Mr Boyd said.
The court heard other patrons stepped in to separate the pair and it was told this was an unprovoked attack.
The victim suffered cuts and swelling to his face and the back of his head, attending Gladstone Hospital for treatment.
Waia had a one-page criminal history and the court heard he had previously been placed on probation for a public nuisance in the vicinity of licensed premises offence.
Solicitor Bianca Wieland said Waia was born in Townsville and raised in Gladstone, and he worked as a scaffolder.
Ms Wieland said Waia had no issues with alcohol or drugs.
“On the night of this offence, he went out with his friends and he had been drinking,” Ms Wieland said.
“He does not recall the offence or why it may have happened.
“He is very remorseful for his actions.”
On July 31, Magistrate Mary Buchanan noted this offence happened more than a year ago and Waia had not offended since.
She sentenced Waia to 12 months’ jail with immediate parole.
A conviction was recorded.
