A Central Queensland man who used a cultural weapon to attack a woman, has faced court.

Rohan Ashely Hodges, 52, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to offences including common assault (domestic violence offence).

The court heard that about 11am on October 18 last year, Hodges’ brother and sister-in-law were at his property when the couple got into an argument.

Hodges was working on a woomera (cultural weapon) at the time and he’d had enough of the pair arguing.

The court was told Hodges tried to hit his sister-in-law with the woomera while yelling “f*** that maggot” and that he wanted her out of the home.

Two people “stepped in” to stop him and there was no physical injury caused to the woman.

Hodges had a two-page criminal history which included previous domestic violence offending.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd submitted for a suspended sentence while solicitor Jun Pepito said a “significant” fine could be imposed.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Hodges $1500 and a conviction was recorded.
