A Central Queensland chef who threatened to “chop a man up” while armed with a weapon, has faced court.
Luke Naylor, 26, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to going armed to cause fear.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said about 3pm on June 2, Naylor went to a home at New Auckland armed with either a large knife or a sword.
Sgt Hoskins said there, Naylor tapped the weapon on the window and shouted to a man inside: “I’ll chop you up, no-one speaks to my daughter like that and gets away with it.”
Naylor left the residence before police got there about 4.15pm.
Sgt Hoskins said when questioned by police, Naylor told them he had phoned his ex-girlfriend and while on that call, he heard the man “being disrespectful to his daughter.”
“(Naylor) couldn’t give a lawful reason for his behaviour,” the prosecutor said.
“He did make admissions to going over to that (New Auckland) address but he said he had a pole with him and not a sword.
“He said he threw the pole away on his way home, but he couldn’t show police where it was.”
Naylor had a two-entry criminal history.
Solicitor Jun Pepito said the man Naylor threatened was “a new guy in a relationship” with Naylor’s ex-girlfriend.
Mr Pepito said Naylor was a chef.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Naylor $850 and no conviction was recorded.
