With previous convictions for choking and assault, a Central Queensland scaffolder has run out of chances after his latest domestic violence attack on a woman where he punched her in the face.

A Central Queensland scaffolder has been jailed after his latest domestic violence attack on a woman.
Matthew George King, 34, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to seven charges including assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), wilful damage (DV offence), possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.
Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said on the afternoon of April 20, King and the aggrieved woman were involved in an incident at a Gladstone residence.
Ms Leach said King tackled the woman to the ground, grabbed her phone and “completely smashed it”.
“He bent the phone in half before throwing it into the yard,” Ms Leach said.
The prosecutor said the woman attempted to go inside “to safety” and lock the doors, but before she could get in the house King punched her in the face.
King then got in his car and left.
Ms Leach said the woman told police she feared King and did not want to continue the relationship.
Then in June, police busted King with marijuana residue in a clip-seal bag and a syringe with about 0.2ml of liquid that appeared to be methamphetamine, the court heard.
King had a two-page criminal history.
Solicitor Jun Pepito said King, a father of two, worked as a scaffolder and he accepted his behaviour was not appropriate.
Prior to sentencing on July 17, Magistrate Mary Buchanan noted King’s criminal history was “littered with” domestic violence offences including previous choking and AOBH offences.
Ms Buchanan sentenced King to 10 months’ jail, declared 40 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served and fixed parole at September 7, 2024.
She also fined him $300 and convictions were recorded.
