A woman who brandished a didgeridoo as a weapon in a violent clash with her daughter’s boyfriend, has faced court in Central Queensland.
Laura Ellen Brown, 43, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on November 29 to going armed to cause fear and wilful damage, both domestic violence offences.
The court heard that at the time it occurred, Brown was staying with her daughter and her boyfriend and there was an argument.
It was told Brown she then brandished a didgeridoo as a weapon, holding it in front of her chest and she was locked out of the residence.
The court heard Brown then hit the door “five or six times” with the didgeridoo, damaging it.
It was told that Brown had a one-page criminal history.
Solicitor Rio Ramos said Brown’s criminal history was “very limited” and she had been living in Gladstone since 2020.
Ms Ramos said Brown attended university in her 30s and did a Certificate III in Agriculture, and suffered from bipolar disorder, for which she took medication.
Ms Ramos said before the incident, the boyfriend made numerous threats to evict Brown and tensions had been brewing for some time.
Ms Ramos said Brown had wanted her daughter to leave with her as Brown had concerns in relation to the age difference between her daughter and the boyfriend.
The solicitor said Brown used the didgeridoo to take out her frustrations on the door and no-one was injured.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Brown $600 and no conviction was recorded.
