Gladstone mum gets suspended jail sentence for repeat DV offending
A young Gladstone mum is sailing close to being put behind bars for her ongoing domestic violence offending with a court hearing she “tends to fight with her family.”

A young Gladstone mother has been given a suspended jail sentence for repeat domestic violence offending.
The 24-year-old woman, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on May 15 to three counts of contravening a domestic violence order (all aggravated offences).
The court was told the first of these three offences happened just eight days after the woman was placed on probation.
“A rough summary of the offending which is before the court, is that she tends to fight with her family, basically regarding the child, either because she wants the child on her own terms or because she doesn’t want to assume responsibility for herself,” police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said.
The court heard the aggrieved parties were the woman’s ex-partner (father of her child) whom she’d attacked by scratching with her fingernails, and another relative who she’d thrown punches at.
The woman also sent derogatory messages as part of her offending.
She had a one-page criminal history.
Solicitor Bianca Wieland said the woman had made full admissions to police about the offending and since then, she’d come “quite a long way” having engaged in rehabilitation.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced the woman to three months’ jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of 12 months.
Convictions were recorded.
