A young Central Queensland man who tried to fight a bowls club patron and staff before turning his attention to police, has copped a hefty fine.
Callum Liam Birse-Syphers, 20, had his matters dealt with ex parte in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday after Magistrate Mary Buchanan accepted his pleas in writing.
Birse-Syphers pleaded guilty to failing to leave a licensed premises and public nuisance at a licensed premises.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Jessica McLaren said on the night of November 8, Birse-Syphers was at Gladstone Bowls Club and while intoxicated, he caused a disturbance and tried to fight a patron.
“When he became disorderly and was committing that public nuisance offence, he was asked to leave by the authorised person from the Gladstone Bowls Club,” Snr Const McLaren said.
The court heard Birse-Syphers failed to leave the premises.
Snr Const McLaren said staff tried to remove him from the venue but he tried to fight them.
“Police were called and observed (Birse-Syphers) swearing loudly, threatening staff and also wanting to fight police,” Snr Const McLaren said.
“(Birse-Syphers) refused to change his behaviour after being given an opportunity to do so, and was subsequently arrested.
“While under arrest he continued to yell and swear.”
Birse-Syphers was taken to Gladstone Watchhouse.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan said Birse-Syphers had made a submission about the incident, saying it had been a hot day at work and he didn’t drink much water or eat much food prior to drinking alcohol.
Ms Buchanan fined Birse-Syphers $1200 and no conviction was recorded.
