A man has died in a Central Queensland boating tragedy after the vessel he was skippering overturned on a popular waterway.

Emergency crews were called to Gladstone’s Trevor Laver Boat Ramp, on Gladstone Benaraby Road, at 10.13am today.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two people were pulled from the water after their boat overturned.

“We received reports that a boat had overturned and was sinking,” the QAS spokeswoman said.

“There’s one patient that’s stable and uninjured.

“We’ve got (another) patient with life-threatening injuries — they were pulled from the water unresponsive.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said an 80-year-old Gladstone man, who was skippering the boat, had died at the scene.

“The boat overturned in the water,” she said.

The police spokeswoman said the skipper’s 48-year-old man passenger was not injured.

She said CPR was conducted at the scene.
