Clive, Edelstens in the mix with Turtle Island up for grabs

IT COULD be third time lucky for a Sydney couple looking to sell their paradise island in Gladstone harbour.

Owned by a property developer and his wife, the couple bought the nearly 9.21ha Turtle Island for $3 million in 1999.

It's currently listed for sale at $6.75 million.

Richard Vanhoff of Coldwell Banker GC Property Group, who lives in Yeppoon, is looking after the listing.

He said his was one of three groups worldwide which specialised in island sales.

"I would have the majority (of sales) here in Australia," he said.

"I've had Clive Palmer enquire about it. I've had Dr Edelsten and Brynne up there to inspect the island."

The island has been on and off the market for nearly three years, with two sales falling through.

In a bid to boost interest, Gladstone's LJ Hooker has now been brought in to see if their local knowledge can pull any prospective buyers.

"Tony (Lloyd-Jones) and myself, as directors, have overseen a billion dollars of sales in Gladstone over the last decade, so it's only natural we're involved in a transaction like this," agent Mark Spearing said.

The agency is hoping to attract fresh interest, with Mr Spearing indicating the price range could start from $5.5 million.

"It's priced to sell," he said.

He said there are development approvals which included a tourism centre.

"It already has a sensational property located on it with a helipad," Mr Spearing said.

"It's a first-class property, a wonderful little island, a hidden gem."

The island was originally developed by horse racing's Bob Bentley, who bought it in 1994 for $300,000.
