Boycott of Gladstone servos organised for next week

ANOTHER day to boycott service stations that have high fuel prices is being organised for February 6.

ANOTHER day to boycott service stations in Gladstone that have high fuel prices is being organised for February 6.

A group of local residents is organising the boycott, saying motorists were getting ripped off.

They have declared Friday, February 6 as No Fuel in Gladstone Day.

They are encouraging motorists to buy their fuel at service stations in Boyne Island, Benaraby and Calliope that consistently offer lower prices.

A similar push was organised in December, resulting in more business for the Boyne Island BP.

Owner Col Taylor late last month said people were still making the drive to Boyne Island for fill up, with the servo having a 50-60% increase in the volume of fuel usually sold at that time of year.

Unleaded petrol at Boyne Island BP was $1.10 per litre on Sunday, with diesel at $1.18.

A Facebook page promoting the boycott has been set up here.

Residents can keep an eye on local fuel prices and share information at the Gladstone Fuel Watch Facebook page.
