Colin Boyce will run a campaign based on standing up for workers in Central Queensland and growing prosperity in the region after officially launching his tilt for the seat of Flynn in Gladstone on Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce flew into Gladstone to stand beside the Callide MP along with Senator Matt Canavan and outgoing Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd.

Mr Joyce said the Liberal National Party was proud of the future it was going to present to the area in a candidate like Mr Boyce in the upcoming Federal election.

“I’ll tell you what pride in an area is, you are not afraid to be seen with people,” Mr Joyce said.

“What we are saying is that we have pride and belief in Central Queensland, we have a belief in Gladstone.

“We want to take the jobs, take the future, we want to grow the prosperity, we want to build on the vision to make sure this remains one of the powerhouses of the Australian economy.”

Mr Boyce said Flynn was the economic powerhouse of Australia which generated income for Australia through the mining, resources and agricultural sectors.

“That is what gets people their jobs, we transfer that income through to the education and health sectors,” he said.

“It is really important that Australia recognises that and we keep people in Gladstone area and the Flynn electorate in their jobs in the mining and resource sector and in the agricultural sector.”

Mr Canavan spoke to Mr Boyce’s strength as he prepares to go head to head with current Gladstone Mayor and Labor candidate for Flynn Matt Burnett.

“Colin Boyce already has a record of standing up for Central Queensland and it doesn’t matter how many noses he puts out of joint in Brisbane,” he said

“He has crossed the floor, sometimes he gives his colleagues the bejesus down in Brisbane but he does so because he is fighting and standing up for this region and that is why he is going to do such a good job in Canberra too.

“This next election is all about which party, which team, is going to defend your job the best, that is what this next election is all about.”
