When witnesses reported explosions at a Laidley address, local police fronted to a bright spectacle of fireworks.
At 1.25am on April 25, police body camera footage caught people in a car lighting firework on Douglass McInnes Drive, then speeding away.
They stopped to talk to three people who remained in the middle of the road, one being Jake Colin Kelly.
Kelly, who was heavily intoxicated, took a drink from an open stubby of beer as he attempted to talk to police.
The Gatton Magistrates Court was told Kelly called his mates while police were trying to talk to him and egged on his friends to continue lighting fireworks.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton said when speaking with police, Kelly, 24, was clearly intoxicated, slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes.
But it didn’t stop him having another sip of beer.
A breath test at the Laidley watch-house showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.181.
Kelly, a concrete pump operator, told the court the incident had led him to make some changes in his life.
“I’ve had a word with my missus, and I’ve stopped (drinking) for now,” he said.
Magistrate Peter Saggers told Kelly if he had an issue with alcohol, he needed to get it sorted.
Kelly pleaded guilty to drinking on a road and being drunk in a public place.
He was fined $500 and no conviction was recorded.
