THERE will be some relief for motorists over Christmas with reconstruction works on flood-damaged roads in the Lockyer regions to shut down from Friday for the holiday season.
However the relief will be temporary as roadworks will start again on January 6.
Work will begin in January on a new stretch of the Warrego Hwy for three sections between Dinmore and Marburg.
Works will take six months and include reconstruction of 350m of westbound carriageway from 700m west of the Ashburn Rd exit to the Bremer River bridge, reconstruction of 160m of the westbound carriageway slow lane, 700m west of North Ipswich/Kholo exit and reconstruction of 1.6km of the eastbound carriageway from 1km east of Piepers Rd to Telrader Rd, Marburg.
Meanwhile repairs are under way on the eastbound carriageway near Rusty's Fuel Station at Hatton Vale.
The second stage of flood repairs has also begun on the westbound carriageway.
Stage 2a involves roadworks on the westbound carriageway from Habban Rd, finishing west of Summerholm Rd while Stage 2b will start when Stage 2a is finishing involving roadworks westbound from Summerholm Rd to Weier Rd.
Repairs are also under way on the eastbound carriageway near Crowley Vale adjoining the roadworks at Gatton between the intersections of Bachmann and Gatton-Esk Rds.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) say works between Marburg and Gatton should be finished by March, weather permitting.
Meanwhile TMR advises reconstruction works to repair a landslip on Esk-Hampton Road will start in the week commencing January 6, 2014.
The January 2013 flood event caused a landslip and embankment failure 300m west of the site where the road collapsed after the 2011 flood, 11km east of Hampton.
These works will be carried out Monday to Friday between the hours of 6am and 6pm, although some weekend works may be necessary.
TMR will also resume works on Murphys Creek Road from early January 2014 to repair flood damage to the road surface and embankments.
The works to repair the road surface will take place at multiple locations.
Geotechnical works will also take place during this time between Hanleys Road and McCormack Drive where flooding caused an embankment slip.
The works are expected to be completed in May 2014, weather permitting.
