Painted artwork on the Forest Hill silos is one step closer to fruition with the Lockyer Council calling on community input this week.

Two pop-up consultations will be held, one on Wednesday June 9, the second on Saturday, June 12, for not just the Forest Hill community, but the Lockyer Valley, to ask questions and have their say.

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council is working with the Forest Hill Community Development Association to prepare designs and a project plan for the silos.

A LVRC spokesperson said GrainCorp, who own the silos, and Queensland Rail, have given conditional approvals for the project, however formal approval is required prior to artwork commencing.

FHCDA secretary Melinda Brimblecombe encouraged residents to have their say and be a part of the project.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity not only for the Forest Hill community, but the wider Lockyer Valley region and something everyone can be a part of,” she said.

“We’re excited this step is going ahead and encourage everyone to have their say.”

Its predicted thousands of litres of paint could produce a significant financial boost to the Forest Hill community and the Lockyer Valley.

The Forest Hill silo were constructed in 1975 following an increase in wheat and barley production in the Lockyer Valley and surrounds.

Originally, the first two silos were poured in a non-stop concreting process that lasted two days and involved 45 men each working 12-hour shifts.

The second two silos were constructed in 1979 following a high demand of traffic and congestion caused by waiting trucks.

By having a say in the project, the Lockyer Council and Forest Hill group will develop an artist’s brief, which will be used during the expressions of interest phase to gather draft designs and quotes.

The survey and consultation period will end on June 30.
