Four Pine Rivers primary schools have been praised for “outstanding” community engagement for helping students make the leap to high school at the prestigious Queensland education showcase awards.

South East Queensland schools, school clusters or individuals dominated the awards, winning seven categories to highlight the “world-class” education found across the state.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the awards celebrated the work educators did daily to provide such high standards.

The Pine Rivers South primary cluster – Bray Park, Strathpine, Strathpine West and Lawnton – won the excellence in parent and community engagement award.

Lawnton also won an individual award for its “we grow leaders” strategy.

Wavell State High School principal Brett Dascombe and Mango Hill State School principal Tracy Egan claimed individual awards.

“That there were so many high-quality entries to this year’s awards shows the hard work, dedication and expertise of Queensland school staff,” Ms Grace said of the 86 award submissions.

“The awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the great work our educators are doing every day to ensure that students in Queensland state schools are getting a world-class education”

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd praised the school and their leaders.

“I’m very proud of the Pine Rivers school communities for being recognised for their outstanding engagement,” Ms Boyd said.

“They focus lasting, meaningful partnerships between families, communities and schools.

“It helped connect families with support agencies to provide home visits, support daily routines and provide mentoring, leading to increased enrolments, better academic outcomes and successful student transition to high school.”

Ms Grace said each state award winner would receive a $10,000 development grant.
