Wide Bay Food Services PTY LTD goes into liquidation

A Fraser Coast food and catering company has gone into liquidation, owing more than $200k to businesses including the firm behind a major retirement village.

A Fraser Coast catering company has collapsed owing more than $200,000 to creditors.

Wide Bay Food Services PTY LTD, which traded as The Village Caterer and Vegies 2 U, has gone into liquidation.

The company’s collapse comes only two years after it was reinvented in 2020.

The company changed hands in July 2020.

According to a report recently released by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), the company voluntarily wound up on February 23, 2022.

In the ASIC documents, the Director of the liquidated company who signed the report was named as Daniel Embrey.

Jarvis Archer from Revive Financial was appointed the liquidator, according to ASIC.

Based on the ASIC report, the company’s estimated debt was $180,858.

But, Mr Archer told the Chronicle on Thursday, the total known creditor claims came in at $230,000.

“Included in this balance is a claim by the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) for approximately $38,000,” he said.

“However, the company had a number of outstanding returns which, if lodged, may significantly increase the amount claimed by the ATO.”

It is yet to be determined how much is owed to several other companies.

Mr Archer said the “director advised that the company’s failure was due to poor trading due to the impact of Covid restrictions, and a dispute which arose with the company’s landlord”.

Torbay Lifestyles & Care in Hervey Bay, according to the ASIC report, was owed $42,665.

The Chronicle reached out to Torbay but it declined to comment.

Hervey Bay food service company HBW was owed $16,361.

The largest debt recorded in the report was to New South Wales based company Prospa for $65,000.

Other Wide Bay businesses listed in the report included Bundaberg catering solutions business MVO Services for $1700, Allens Electrical in Maryborough for $2142, and Whale City Meats in Pialba for $2,518.

The Chronicle tried contacting The Village Caterer for comment, but lines had been disconnected.
