Urangan community mourns 'gorgeous little boy' who died after tragic collapse

The death of a six-year-old boy at a busy shopping centre has devastated the Urangan community, with his grandmother among those paying tribute to "nana's little man".

A coastal community on the Fraser Coast has been rocked by the sudden and tragic death of a young boy at a busy shopping centre days before Christmas holidays were set to begin.

It is understood the boy had suffered from severe asthma, and a sudden attack led to his tragic death at Urangan Central about 2.30pm on Friday.

The mother of the boy, Casey Morris, shared the tragic news on Facebook Monday afternoon.

“As most of you are ... aware, my son had (severe) asthma and has since he was a little baby.”

Hundreds of Urangan residents have taken to social media to share in the grief.

In a gut-wrenching response to an online post, the six-year-old boy’s father said “my son is in the dream times”.

He said he learned of his son’s tragic death via social media.

The young boy’s grandmother, Kate Nunn, said “nana’s little man, going to miss you. I am sorry I wasn’t there to see you before you left this world,” she said.

Emergency services were called to the Boat Harbour Drive scene to reports of a boy who had collapsed.

Following the tragedy, one witness, Stephen Power described how chaos erupted at the ordinarily bustling shopping centre.

“Different people were trying CPR on the little fella,” he said.

“The mother was so distraught.

“So-so sad and especially at this time of year or any time.

“My deepest condolences go out to the mum and family.

“R.I.P little man,” Mr Power said.

Many more praised the efforts of emergency responders forced to confront the distressing scene.

Another commenter, Nicole Vout said “this is so sad. I hope the poor lady who assisted with CPR is OK”.

“I have no words. My love goes out to his family, so much sadness was enveloping the centre as it was all happening,” another commenter, Stephanie Szoke, said.

Those who knew the six-year-old said he was a “gorgeous little boy”.

“This is so-so sad, he was a gorgeous little boy. RIP buddy.”

A bystander, who didn’t want to be named, told this publication: “It was horrible. I walked up to see if they needed help. I wasn’t prepared to see a little boy.”

The six-year-old boy was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition but sadly could not be saved.

Police have since said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
