Friends, loved ones raise money for Tyeson Mackie’s family

A heart wrenching tribute from one of Tyeson Mackie’s younger brothers has joined an outpouring of grief as friends raise money for his devastated family following his shock death.

Friends of Tyeson Mackie, the 27-year-old father of two whose life tragically ended in a Maryborough motel unit on Saturday morning, June 3, have created a fundraiser to support his family.

Tyeson’s cause of death has not been revealed.

The Gofundme page created by Christine Rosin and Sean McKenna says the fundraiser has the aim of “rais(ing) money for the Mackie family following the tragic loss of their eldest son, Tyeson”.

His brother Lachie Mackie paid tribute to “my role model and also my best friend”.

“I’m so f------ lost for words. This is not meant to be,” Lachie posted to Facebook.

“I love you so much, my brother. I thank you for everything you have taught me in life, the good and the bad!

“Never in my life (have) I pictured this to happen. It’s so unfair. I have so much I just want to talk to you about.”

He said Mackie’s two young children will be “forever protected”.

As of Tuesday afternoon, $2810 had been raised from 30 donations to the gofundme.

More tributes flowed on social media, including from long time friend Teleah Matthews.

“...We started off as boyfriend and girlfriend when I was around 14 and I remember meeting you at your 15th birthday party,” Ms Matthews’ posted.

“You took me on my first motorbike ride and of course you decide to do a wheelie with me on it! Never have I felt so scared and so safe at the same time. You were a little thrill seeker and you took me along on so many adventures.

“So many firsts we shared and along the years we developed such a beautiful friendship.

“I will always cherish those moments catching up talking about our adult lives. I will miss you so very much.

“Thanks for all the great memories and I hope to see you again so we can make some more love.”

Friend Relle Ann told Mr Mackie’s best friend Reid Blaine “you always had each others’ backs mate. Here for ya if you need. His beautiful soul will be dearly missed”.

Another friend, Tim Wyeth, said of Mr Mackie to Mr Blaine, “Gonna miss him so much ay bro. Some of the times we got to share with him though”.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that Mr Mackie’s death was being treated as non-suspicious and a report was being prepared for the coroner.

Mr Mackie was found in a critical condition at the unit at the Carriers Arms Motel on Alice St in Maryborough about 9.30am on June 3, 2023.

Paramedics helped at the scene but he could not be revived.

Tributes poured in for the Maryborough man in the wake of the tragic news.

Mr Blaine posted that he was “shattered” to lose his “best mate”.

“All I got to say is I’m shattered (my) best mate for as long (as I know) and can remember has been taken away too early,” he said.

“Can safely say the best mate I have ever or will ever know .. trust me brother u and ur memories and morals and beliefs will always live on forever.”

“Still coming to terms with it,” another friend, Brandon Stacey, wrote.

“Another beautiful soul cut short.”

Sturgiss Jaycob simply wrote: “Love you my brother”.

His mother, Kristine Mackie, had shared a photo of her beloved son to her Facebook page, sparking an outpouring of love and support for the family.

“Love you all so much, the worst news possible,” Lily Timms wrote.

“We are all thinking of you so deeply,” Peta Staples wrote.

“Our hearts are breaking for you all.”

Katelyn Maree said she was sending her love and thoughts.

“No words can heal or fix what has happened,” she wrote.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle has contacted the family for comment.
