Protests will take place outside both Fraser Coast hospitals and the Bundaberg Hospital this week as concerns escalate over hospital beds and staff workloads.

A statement from the Together Union said concerns had been raised regarding bed shortages, especially as many patients were elderly and required additional care, including occupational therapy and physiotherapy, before they could return home.

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service had also “failed to address continued escalation of workload issues for doctors, allied health and administration workers”, the statement read.

The first protest will be held outside Hervey Bay Hospital on Tuesday, August 31, with Maryborough to follow on Wednesday and Bundaberg on Thursday.

WBHHS was contacted for a response.
