An unemployed Scarness woman has avoided actual jail time after bashing a man outside his house at his daughter’s birthday party.

A Scarness woman’s attack on a father as he celebrated his daughter’s birthday party left him with a fractured eye socket, and her with a suspended jail sentence.

Louise Lee Roberts, 23, represented herself and pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday to to assault causing bodily harm.

The court heard on May 5, 2023, an “intoxicated” Roberts interjected herself into an argument occurring outside the victim’s Scarborough Street property and away from the party.

When he told her “none of this involves you” she responded, "you are gonna cop it” and punched him on the right side of the face, leaving him with a fractured right eye socket.

Arrested shortly after, she rejected an interview with police officers on the scene.

Roberts told the court she was unemployed and received about $750 a week from Centrelink.

She was given a nine-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months and fined $250 for failing to appear. A conviction was recorded.
