A drug driver who was busted behind the wheel on Christmas Day has appeared before court.
John Lachlan Yates pleaded guilty to drug driving when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Balam Selvadurai said Yates had been stopped by police about 10pm and tested positive for meth and cannabis.
He had a previous conviction for similar offending, Sgt Selvadurai said.
Defence lawyer Morgan Harris said Yates had previously worked but was currently receiving Centrelink payments.
He had a good work history but had needed to retire early due to industrial deafness, Mr Harris said.
Mr Harris asked Magistrate John Milburn to take into account Yates’ advanced age and the limited public transport available in the area.
Mr Milburn said he understood the difficulty Yates would suffer as a result of losing his licence, but said he did have recent history of similar offending.
Yates was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months.
A conviction was recorded.
