A Hervey Bay charity that helps some of the region’s most vulnerable has had their car, which tows the trailer needed to feel the homeless breakfast three times a week, stolen.

WeCare2, a community organisation which strives to “make a difference, change people’s lives, and change people’s circumstances” had its Toyota HiLux Ute stolen from outside the Main Street office in Urraween on Wednesday morning.

The organisation, which is linked with the New Life Christian Church, has been around for 20 years and provides crucial services such as low-cost shopping, emergency relief and free counselling to all who need it.

In addition to these services, three times a week the charity runs a free breakfast from 6:30 to 7:30am at Apex Park in Pialba.

Administration officer Phoenix Beck said the “the trailer of the ute was recovered an hour after the robbery occurred but all the equipment, we use for the free breakfast was taken”.

“The people responsible have not just robbed WeCare2, but have robbed the community, and those who access our services” Mr Beck told the Chronicle.

“The attack is upsetting, random and without any real motivation from what we know”.

Despite the robbery, he said the organisation had been able to keep supplying their much-valued services “thanks to our volunteers stepping up to the plate” and the wider community “standing with us”.

“We Care 2 was all about providing care to vulnerable residents of Hervey Bay and seeing the hope in people’s eyes restored.”

A Queensland Police spokesman said, “there have been no arrests or charges laid at this stage. Anyone with information is urged to contact police”.

The incident follows a spate of car thefts across Hervey Bay in recent times.
