Maryborough’s Kaylah Behrens opens eyes after week in coma
The husband of a young woman critically injured in a triple-fatal crash has shared a “significant milestone” as he asks for people to continue to keep her in their prayers.

A young woman has “woken up” from a week-long coma following a horror crash that claimed the lives of three other women.
Kaylah Behrens was critically injured in the crash on Saltwater Creek Rd on April 30, but fellow Reach Church members 17-year-old Kelsie Davies and church pastor Michale Chandler, 29 died, as well as 52-year-old Hervey Bay nurse Sheree Robertson who was in a separate vehicle.
A 13-year-old boy, who was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen Mercedes, has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death after the crash.
Mrs Behrens had spent more than a week in coma at Brisbane Royal and Women’s Hospital.
On Wednesday, Mrs Behrens’ husband, David Behrens, shared an update on her condition.
“For those that may not be aware, 10 days ago my beautiful wife Kaylah was involved in a horrific car accident and has spent most of this time in a coma,” he said.
“I would like to let you all know that today she has woken and is in a stable condition.
“There will still be a very long road ahead in her recovery but this is a significant milestone.
“Please continue to keep Kaylah in your prayers through this time.
“I would like to thank absolutely everyone around us during this time and the time ahead for your support.
“The level of support we have received has been beyond what I could have ever asked for.”
Mr Behrens thanked Josh Lunnon in particular for “spending the last 10 days with me to support me and Sarah for every moment”.

“Everyone who has reached out and offered support of all types and so many more I haven’t mentioned.”
The 13-year-old boy charged over the fatal crash appeared before the court last week and the matter was adjourned to a later date.
More than $91,000 has been raised by Reach Church to support the families of the crash victims in the wake of the tragedy.
