Fraser Coast Anglican College and St Mary’s Primary School are Fraser Coast’s top performing NAPLAN schools in 2024.
An independent analysis of newly-released 2024 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.
St Mary’s Primary School, in Maryborough, had the best primary results than any other school in Fraser Coast, scoring an average of 486.2.
Bauple State School in Bauple was the second best for the region with an average score of 485.6, while Bayside Christian College Hervey Bay in Urraween was the third best with an average score of 485.0.
The top performing secondary school was Fraser Coast Anglican College, in Wondunna, where the average result was 584.6.
Bayside Christian College Hervey Bay in Urraween was the second best for the region with an average score of 579.8, while St Mary’s College in Maryborough was the third best with an average score of 572.6.
To determine how each school performed in 2024, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
“Always proud”: Principal of top performing school praises students
The Principal of Fraser Coast Anglican College, Joe Wright, praised all of his students in a statement delivered to this publication.
“We are always proud of our students when they are giving their best, no matter the result,” Mr Wright said.
Mr Wright’s students learn by the mantra “it’s not about being the best, it’s about being your best”.
“When you have a culture of ‘giving your best’ and an environment that supports that, you will get the best out of your students,” he said.
“We understand that academic results can open doors for our students, but we also know a person’s character and work ethic play a significant role in their level of success, which is why we devote a lot of time to developing skills in students that aren’t measured by any test.
“The results are great but they only tell one small part of the story.”
With this school year ending and 2025 fast approaching, Mr Wright is keeping his cards close to his chest on whether next year’s crop of ninth grader’s can achieve a similar feat.
“We take each year as it comes, every group of students is different and as long as they are doing their best at school, anything is possible.”
