A convicted rapist, who was on parole when he allegedly attacked an elderly woman in Hervey Bay, has been denied bail.
Jesse Sean Wright faced court charged with common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm on a person over 60 and possessing restricted items.
Magistrate Stephen Guttridge told Mr Wright, a former karate expert, he was free to make an application for bail, but suggested it might be wise to wait until he was legally represented.
The police prosecutor lodged an objection to bail and said Mr Wright was on parole for offences including rape and deprivation of liberty when the fresh charges were laid.
Mr Wright is accused of attacking three generations of a family in the middle of the day, including a 62-year-old woman, who police allege he kicked in the stomach.
The woman’s son and nine-year-old grandson were forced to come to her defence, the court heard.
Appearing via videolink, Mr Wright addressed the court, saying he believed he was not a risk to the community and he had stable accommodation and employment.
He claimed the facts read to the court were inaccurate.
Magistrate Guttridge however said he believed Mr Wright was an unacceptable risk of reoffending.
He was denied bail and the matter was adjourned until January 13.
