A candidate is yet to be chosen to take on incumbent member for Hervey Bay MP Adrian Tantari at the upcoming state election.
A spokesman from the LNP confirmed to the Chronicle on Thursday that a decision had not been made regarding who would contest the seat.
It comes following speculation that Fraser Coast councillor David Lee could get the nod ahead of next year’s election.
Mr Lee, who did not respond to questions this week, had shown an active interest in state issues, including roads and Hervey Bay Hospital.
Fraser Coast businessman Steve Coleman, who contested the seat for the LNP at the 2020 election, said he was unlikely to run again at this stage.
Mr Tantari was elected in 2020 after Ted Sorensen, who had been the LNP member for Hervey Bay since 2009, retired.
Fraser Coast deputy mayor Denis Chapman ruled out running as candidate, having run for the seat of Maryborough for the LNP against Labor MP Bruce Saunders in 2020.
Small business owner John Barounis was selected as the LNP candidate for Maryborough to run against Mr Saunders in 2024.
The former owner of the Mineral Sands Motel, Mr Barounis and his wife Tricia have called Maryborough home since 2014.
Mr Barounis is the father of Zoe and Yannis, who tragically died in 2018.
Since Yannis’ death, Mr Barounis and his family have become passionate advocates for mental health awareness.
“We understand mental health is a big issue, particularly for young people,” he said.
“This is an issue very close to our hearts and part of the reason why I’ve decided to put my hand up and stand up for our local community.
“We need greater training and awareness for people to see the signs of those who may be struggling with their mental health and offer greater support for those who need it.”
