A new lifestyle village has been confirmed for Hervey Bay.
Fraser Coast Regional Council has approved development for an over 55s lifestyle village at 128 to 136 Elizabeth Street Urangan, featuring 160 one-storey dwellings and community recreation facilities.
The motion to approve the development passed 9 to 1 at the council’s meeting on April 28.
Councillor Denis Chapman voted for the development, saying there was a need for lifestyle villages to cater to the older than average population in Hervey Bay and for retirees moving to the area.
He also said the development would complement the Urangan area.
Councillor David Lee was for the development, however he was concerned by the lack of green space for residents when the village was built.
The council heard future residents would have access to their own private backyard green space.
The proposal also said a number of trees would be retained and incorporated into the site and a significant number of new trees will planted.
In the council meeting agenda, the development design was shown to alter the topographical layout of the area and stormwater flow.
The design aims to rectify this, proposing stormwater flow along internal roads, into underground pipe networks and flowing into a proposed underground basin which will gradually be discharged into the existing, external stormwater network.
The agenda concluded that the development complies with the planning scheme and did not raise any issue that couldn’t be reasonably dealt with.
