$80 million Maryborough residential Airpark approved

A RESIDENTIAL airpark in Maryborough will begin development after it was approved by council at their 13th ordinary meeting.

THE $80 million airpark development to be built beside the Maryborough Airport has been approved by the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Plans for the 138-lot airpark will soar ahead after a unanimous decision from the councillors and mayor during Wednesday's council meeting.

It will include a combination of land blocks aimed at flying enthusiasts and will include homes featuring private aircraft hangars plus single residential lots with access to common hangar space.

The blocks of land are expected to range in price from $160,000 to $270,000.

The Fraser Coast Airpark is a joint venture partnership with a consortium of local businessmen to develop the land, which will be built in five stages.

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the region's location offered "distinct advantages" which made the area a smart place to develop a residential airpark.

"We've got great flying weather here and it's quite flat," Cr O'Connell said.

"It's close enough to Brisbane and Sydney and we have the space."

While council owns the land, the airpark will be developed privately by local businesses and the Fraser Coast Residential Airpark Pty Ltd.

Despite Wednesday morning's approval, work on the residential park is expected to begin mid 2016.
