Hervey Bay RSL left faces beaming yesterday, as local not-for-profit organisations received grants totalling over $200,000.

In the RSL’s Hervey House function room, more than 30 organisations received grants at the Hervey Bay RSL Community Grant presentations on Thursday, April 29.

Hervey Bay RSL Community Engagement Office Sarah Bailey Wilkinson said the grants celebrated and supported those doing incredible work in the area, with this year’s grants marking 10 years since the grants program started.

“We know how tough it is for local not-for-profit groups, community groups and individuals, to get assistance and they are the ones that are serving the community and volunteering their time for the betterment of the region,” Ms Bailey Wilkinson said.

“The program was developed to ensure financial grants were spread among a range of deserving applicants.

“Whether you‘re in the club for dinner or lunch, having a flutter in the TAB or gaming room, or attending any of our shows, a portion of the money you spend goes back to supporting our local community.”

The largest grant awarded was to the Fraser Coast Chaplaincy Program – $30,000.

The funds will go to a Breakfast Club program at public schools across Hervey Bay, with the remaining $20,000 providing Urangan State High School with a chaplain.
