The LNP is on the brink of securing a hotly contested South East Queensland seat by the thinnest of margins, with the Labor candidate getting as close as 120 votes at one stage.

The LNP’s Terry Young is set to retain Longman, with the party increasingly confident after a batch of declaration votes pushed him slightly ahead of his Labor challenger.

Longman, in Brisbane’s outer north, is the last Queensland seat to be settled after the election on May 3, with the count ebbing and flowing to be as close as 120 votes as of this afternoon.

But a batch of declaration votes counted in the last hour has fallen Mr Young’s way.

His margin is now 335 votes, on a two party preferred count, against Labor’s Rhiannyn Douglas.

Sky News projected Mr Young had won Longman about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

This means the LNP has won 16 of the 30 lower house seats available in Queensland, down from 21 after losing Forde, Petrie, Dickson, Bonner and Leichhardt to Labor.
