An elderly Roma man has found himself no license, and a staggering fine after drunkenly crashing into a Dalby business.
Stephen Andrew Aisthorpe, 68 faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving.
The court was told on January 1, 2025 just after midnight a bystander called police to Nicholson Street after witnessing a Toyota HiLux driving into the front of a mechanics.
The crash caused extensive damage to both the car and the building.
When police arrived they found Aisthorpe and another man standing near the car and noted he was drunk, swaying on his feet and slurring his words.
Aisthorpe admitted he was the driver, and was then taken to Dalby Hospital.
Police attended the hospital at about 1.50am where Aisthorpe returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.138.
Aisthorpe’s defence solicitor told the court his client was not a big drinker and had no prior offences, but had been drinking heavily that night following the loss of his business.
Magistrate Kathleen Payne said it was fortunate no one apart from Aisthorpe had been hurt in the crash.
He was disqualified from driving for five months and ordered to pay $9328 to repair the business.
No conviction was recorded.
