‘Judge jury and executioner’: Jack Bradley Cooke sentenced for Chinchilla assault

A Chinchilla man has found himself in court after he brutally assaulted a man who made comments about his girlfriend and family member, and sent a video of him urinating on his fence.

A magistrate has said a victim who had his nose broken at a Chinchilla pub approached the point of provocation after he claimed he slept with his girlfriend and urinated on his fence.

Jack Bradley Cooke, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of assault stemming from an incident on May 24, 2025 at the Chinchilla Club Hotel.

The court heard the aggrieved and the victim worked together and had an ongoing dispute for several weeks before the incident.

Cooke confronted the victim at work and told him to “pull his head in”, after claims he had been acting inappropriately to Cooke’s 15-year-old family member.

Several weeks later on May 24, Cooke received a number of video calls from the victim.

In these, he made claims to have slept with Cooke’s girlfriend, made sexual remarks about his family member and sent him a video of him urinating on Cooke’s fence.

Cooke drove to the pub, where he found the victim at around 11.30pm.

He then punched him in the face and broke his nose.

The injury required surgery.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins noted that during the 10-minute drive Cooke would have had time to cool down, but said it was clear he had been provoked.

“It was the straw that broke the camel’s back,’ he said.

“This behaviour from the victim is nearing stalking and could’ve been addressed by police, it wasn’t appropriate but the defendant became judge, jury and executioner.”

Magistrate Kathleen Payne said she agreed.

“The victim’s behaviour was not quite provocation but it was nearing that point, it explains Mr Cookes behaviour,” she said.

She warned Cooke to control his anger in the future.

“In life people will say things to us and people we love that we don't like but we can't go around assaulting them,” she said.

He was sentenced to a 12-month probation order.

No conviction was recorded.
